# File System

A File System backup destination stores backup copies in a directory on storage accessible to a Storware Node. This can be a local disk or shared storage mounted on the Node.

The Node writes backup data to this directory, reads it during restore operations, and removes expired backups according to the configured retention rules. The storage must remain mounted and accessible to the `vprotect` user whenever these operations run.

Before using the destination, prepare the storage, configure its mount point and permissions, and add it to Storware Backup & Recovery. Assign the destination to the appropriate Node Configuration, then select it in a backup policy.
